Door locking mechanism question, Is there something missing?
I'm working on my 85 Cab door exterior door handle. When closed, the key will unlock the door but not lock. I'm wondering if there is supposed to be some sort of linkage that goes between the exterior door handle mechanism and the latch mounted to the door? There is a straight pin on the exterior handle and a pin on the mechanism in the door but nothing in between. Hopefully the attached pic will explain better than I can. Am I missing something??
This car is equipped with central locking system. Again, I can unlock the door with the key but when I turn the key to lock, nothing happens. Any help is appreciated. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1379771633.jpg |
I have some door locking issues on my 87'. My key unlocks all doors at once on drivers side, but will not lock my drivers door. This requires me to lock from passenger side or slightly push my manual lock down enough to still open my door then lock it before shutting it. I know the mechancism is designed to prevent lock out requiring the key.
I believe my issue is either the micro switch on the back of the handle (Im have seen a diagram somewhere of these) or a connecting/linkage rod. Until I strip the door panel off and get in there I don't really know whats up. |
From what I've seen there is no linkage. The doors lock with an electric motor. I can hear something clicking when I turn the barrel to lock or unlock the door but nothing is happening. I'll keep looking but being a Cabriolet, I doubt I'll be locking the doors too often since I'll be driving it primarily when the sun is shining and the top is down. I'll keep you posted if I find where the problem is.
