1987 carrera distributor...no points, DME runs the show...
I am changing the rotor, spark plugs and spark plugs wire set. Is this type distributor requires that I lubricate the shaft where the rotor sits with a few oil drops...I am not clear if this applies only to older porsche models or to mine as well |

Yessir,..this applies to ALL Bosch (and Marelli) distributors to help keep the weights free and the top bushing lubed up.

Definitely make sure the centrifugal weights are lubricated and moving freely. They make sure the rotor stays aligned as the DME changes the timing. Don't forget the dust shield to keep the cap and rotor clean. Check the up and down play in the shaft to make sure the fiber washer is still good. They are a much simpler distributor than the earlier ones.
