What shocks???
Hey everybody, I want to upgrade my shocks on my car, which is originally fitted with Boge. I don't know if i should go with Bilstein or Koni Sport adjustable. Which is a better shock? Which is stiffer? Montreal has the worst roads in North America, I think, so comfort is a factor, but I want the edge on the track! What's your advice?
Thanks Mike 86 Carrera (soon tt) |

G'Day Mike,
When I researched this for my Carrera, I found that Bilstein did not have an adjustable shock available, so I swayed towards KONI Sports. However, Bilstein now have an adjustable shock!!! See here http://www.bilstein.com/products/sspage.html Also, if you are looking at aftermarket Torsion bars, I'm told Sanders Engineering hollow units are THE ultimate, as well as TRG Adjustable 22mm Sway Bars. Merv, I am just about to order my Bilsteins and saw your post above.
I looked at the site but can't see that the adjustables are available for our cars. Am I looking on the wrong page? I typed in the car make and model and didn't get an option for adjustables. I note you haven't got private messaging - can you check the 'struct brace' thread I posted the other day - there's a question there for ya. Thanks mate. Cheers Mark |

Ditto. Combined with lowering, neg camber and corner balancing.

Shox
Good morning Mike,
I would stick with the Bilstein (HD or Sport). I have sport on mine. Although adjustable is an interesting feature, I don't know how much track time you intend to do in the future - but for the regular, bumpy, pot-hole laden, streets of Montreal - it woudl be a waste of money. On another note, I know you had installed a turbo - when does she become twin?. Seems like you are adding a fair amount of weight. You might want to consider is overall scheme of things - to move towards coilovers.....

Bilstein HD's up front and Sport's in the rear is a pretty popular option. It's an even more desireable set-up on Turbos, due to the extra weight in the rear. A lot of people think that the Sport's are just a bit too harsh up front.

Shocks have probably changed over the years, but over the years I have had both Koni and Bilstein on various street porsches.
I've always like the Bilsteins better on the street- they seem to handle just as well but generally I've liked the Bilstein ride better. |

I have nothing bad to say about Koni shocks. I used them for years on vehicles that only use two tires.
![]() But I have to say that I have long considered Bilstein shocks to be the best on the planet. Konis may be as good. Bilsteins are unsurpassed. Particularly when you consider longevity. Old, old Bilsteins outperform almost any brand new shock.
