1968 2 liter going for rebuild

I have a friend that has a number matching 1968 L with a 2 l engine . He would like a little more go and so we are trying to figure out if and what combination will wrk with the crank and case? Will 2.4 pistons and cylinders fit, or possibly 2.7 ?

Any conversion will require either machining the heads or buying new (used) ones. 2.2 used the same crank, 2.4 and 2.7 used a different one with longer stroke.
