I had started this thread about visors in Targas, looking for a solution to an issue I had with my visors:

My solution was to modify my visors:

Using after market visors that I had purchased on EBay (very nicely constructed), I slit open the back edge to get an understanding of what was inside; namely a metal frame sandwiched between two layers of cardboard and foam



After carefully removing the innards and evaluating what I was dealing with, I decided to reconfigure the frame to reduce its depth. Starting with the passenger side visor (the guinea pig) I cut the outside section of the frame, bent it to the shape I wanted, cut the excess portion of frame, and then soldered the ends (the motor mount for a crashed RC plane served as the perfect jig).







Next I cut the cardboard and foam to size them to the frame, and then I carefully re-inserted them into the visor sleeve. After cutting the vinyl to size, I used 3M adhesive to glue shut the open end.

I repeated with the driver side, deciding to reduce its depth a bit more than the passenger side. Again, per my original post, my issue was that due to my height, my visor would stick out too deeply into the cabin, basically at the top of my forehead. I love the results:

Just 2 questions:

1. How did you reseal the vinyl cover?
2. How thick was each of the 2 foam pieces inside?

1. How did you reseal the vinyl cover? I used 3M Black Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive. After trimming away most of the excess vinyl I overlapped about 1/4" of the vinyl over the "roof" side of the visor so that it could not be seen. I wrapped 3M blue painter's tape around it and let the adhesive set overnight, then carefully removed the tape.

2. How thick was each of the 2 foam pieces inside? max about 1/16th inch, you can see it in the first photo that I posted - the white material sandwiched between the vinyl and the cardboard - on each side of the internal frame.
