Intake Gasket Replacement

I have a false air leak at the base of the air intake tube on cylinder #5.
In order to fix the leak do I need to replace both gaskets as well as the black plastic flange or can I just replace the 2 gaskets and use the existing flange?
Also does anybody have any tips for replacing the gaskets on #5 with engine in car?

You don't say what year car you have... in my 84 3.2 I only replace the gaskets.

Exactly. What the heck are you driving? A 246 Dino is a six cylinder. Is that what you have?

Did you try tightening the nuts?

Not trying to be a wiener - save the fact I am - but damn, Bro, throw us a bone.

I replaced the spacers on my Carrera but only because I didn't know what I'd find and didn't want to have the car down while waiting on parts. They aren't all that much IIRC. If you do reuse the ones you have make sure the mating surfaces are nice and smooth. On my car I found a few that looked like one of the POs had taken a screwdriver to them, I'm assuming to remove the gaskets. -J

Sorry I forgot to say what car this was for.
It's a '78 SC.
I did try tightening the nuts and it helped some but I can't tighten them anymore and when I spray the carb cleaner I still get an idle change.

If it's a 78, are you absolutely sure that the plastic thing in the middle of you picture is even on your car? Both the PET for a 78 and my care (an 80) only have a single gasket between the head and the manifold.

So what everyone is trying to say is '
It would be best to change all gaskets and spacers
For best results.

When I did mine I also got rid of those useless hex bolts
And installed studs to use locks and nuts.

Best practice would also be to cover the intake holes immediately
Its just so easy to drop something into the head.

HAVE FUN

73.5 with CIS had the injectors in the cylinder head..

I don't recall seeing an insulator block that thick on a 911..maybe a mechanically injected 911 engine had them.

On the OP's engine, should be a gasket. Remove the intake ram tubes and be sure the flange(s) on the cylinder head(s) are not distorted/warped. Dress the flange with a flat fine grain sanding block, lightly. You don't want to do that job twice.

I don't know why I was under the impression that this big plastic flange thing was part of my car! I looked up the diagram and you guys are correct it looks like a single gasket.
Let's just forget that I ever submitted this thread.
Thanks for the tips also.
