Broken head studs on 81 SC
 

Well I have been working on the '81 I purchased as a rally project with the intentions on digging into her full throttle in the coming months. For the time being, I have been driving her around and getting to know the car. So far its been enjoyable, but a recent increase in ticking prompted me to do a valve adjustment. This is what I found...

Originally I planned to prep the shell first, but now it looks like that's secondary.

Exhaust side on 4 & 6...

Sorry to see this. I am no expert, but it does look like the studs were rubbing up against the heads. (Just a guess on my part.) Since cylinder 4 and 6 are showing these, don't drive the car so you don't damage the heads any further on that side of the engine. Lucky you caught this now rather than later. Good luck with your project!
