thank you for your response Walter Middie,
but the number 9011011017R, is on the case, not on the fan shroud!
It seems those cases were done from 72 to mid 77 ,the date stamped on them is on a tiny round ,and appears, the year and week of fabrication. I ve seen a pic where it seems to be 79:18 .
I don t understand that on a mag case.

901.101.101.7R is a legitimate case casting number.

Perhaps it was originally a spare part, sold through the parts distribution network, and not originally assembled at the factory as a running engine. What numbers are stamped where the type number and serial number are located? Do they look like factory stamps, or something done by a shop?

I have such a case, 7r with 15/79 and 19/79 casting dates. Probably an extra run to replace write-off cases that might have occurred on the 2.7 models.

Wouldn't it be nice if they would do another run in aluminum for those of us with earlier engines?

The interesting thing would be, does the engine have a normal serial & type # stamped, or were these "blank" replacement cases? Not very many of the mag cases got date codes that I have seen so far.

A NIB magnesium or aluminum 2.7L case replacement would be great.

I have a '74 Euro (MFI) Carrera with 2.7L engine. My car was one of the first cars built for '74 model year, was actually completed in mid 1973 and registered by the original owner in Sept 1973.

The engine was replaced sometime in the mid-late '70s (don't have the original paperwork on engine replacement) with a blank 7R case. The engine type was left blank (where it would normally be stamped 911/83) on the case but they re-stamped it with the original engine number 664xxxx but font is slightly different. My engine is being rebuilt right now so was able to get a bunch of photos of date castings and such.

The 7R case date stamp is 10 75, so it was cast in March 1975. As djpateman said, many of these magnesium cases never got a date stamp. There was another 7R engine case from a '73 911 up on a stand in the shop last week and the little circle area on that one had no date stamp. I'm not sure if the replacement cases were stamped more frequently than regular production ones or not.

When the engine case was replaced, they rebuilt the engine with the original cylinder heads and most other components. My cylinder heads just came back from the machine shop and you can see the 5/73 date stamp.

Factory Replacement Case?

Just like your photos, I have noticed casting date circles on many of my engine parts. The blank case tends to indicate a "factory replacement" case. I have heard about many blank replacement/warranty cases were re-stamped in the back room with the proper engine number for the vehicle in the early/mid 70's. I have a factory replacement AL 930/C3 case that is still blank but has a casting date circle. Just M2CW. Best of luck.
