Perlon and Alternatives ?
 

Can anyone tell me exactly what Perlon carpet is (content, weave, etc) and whether it has any other common uses besides car interiors? I'm looking for alternatives that are just a little cheaper and I find it hard to believe that someone is making this specific textile material just for the VERY limited vintage porsche racer market ONLY, most of who don't use it either.. much less the average Porsche owner. I mean the early cars that first used it, must have done so because it would have been adapted from a commonly available carpeting, no? I hear it referred to as felt some times.. is there maybe a very thick felt that would do the same thing, or a common thin industrial carpeting available? I'm not after originality, I'm just looking to use this stuff for the time being until something better can be obtained. Thanks in advance.
