convertible main bow insert- needed?
 
I am working on a broken 89 main bow. It has fractured through the weak spots a hole and a threaded insert. Is the insert needed? I was thinking of removing it and welding it closed for greater strength.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1380492910.jpg
