'79 911 strut tower loose, Bearings??

Hey everyone. My 79 911 has a odd shake in the front wheels. I repacked/replaced the wheel bearings, but it still has the same shake. When we put the car on a lift and shook the wheel back and forth from the top of the wheel and bottom, and look up the strut housing the shake is coming from there. I was asked if I forgot the strut bearings when I replaced the inserts?? I really am at a loss on that as I did replace the struts myself 6 years ago, and don't recall any bearings there at the top. Advice please? what to look for?

Inside of the strut housing there are 2 pressed in Plain Bearings. These wear over time and the strut insert (shock) will move around some. It was like a minor clunk on my SC. The PCA tech inspectors would freak out at auto X as they thought it was a super loose wheel bearing.

You can buy new bearings from Bilstein, but be aware it is a major pain to change them out. You will need to make a puller tool to draw them out and then have the new ones pressed in.

It will be easier to either buy new complete struts or send yours to Bilstein in Poway for a refresh.

It could be the strut top bushing, which is a rubber bushing that the strut goes through. It could be that and it is not a difficult part to replace.
