911 SC Door Panel - Scres Left Over??

I just removed and re-installed the passenger door panel on my '83 SC and have a couple screws left over (see pic). The are both phillips head. I already had to remove and re-install the panel three times and did not want to remove if I did not know exactly where they go.

Thanks!

Note: I had two of the longer one but I put one of them at the end of the door pocket - not sure this is correct?

The longer screw (M4 machine screw) is used to secure the bottom of the door pocket to the door. There should be 3 screws and each should also have a "finishing washer". They are spaced out roughly front, middle, rear on the pocket.

These screws simpliy pass through the pocket and door panel. They mate up with a threaded insert in the door shell. They can be very challenging to align properly and are almost always a bit rusty like your photo.

It is common that they are missing or that someone just used a tapping sheet metal screw in there and ruined the threaded insert.

What I do is take an M4 .7 tap and clean up the inserts before panel install. I also clean and lightly oil the screw threads. After the panel is on, and you hang the pocket, you can use an awl or small screwdriver to help align the holes, then install the screws.

The shorter Pan Head screw might be the one that holds on the round interior lock knob. It should also have a small flat washer on it.

Otherwise possibly from inside the door holding window regulator.

I have an SC with RS door cards, so we will have some differences. I don't recognize the first screw, so I'd bet Cooper is right on that one.

Regarding the 2nd one, I agree with Cooper as well. I imagine it would be hard to miss as the door lock knob won't stay on the door without it.

Thanks guys! The second screw is the one I am most worried about. I do have the door lock knob screw.

I want to say that the left screw looks like the one that attaches the map pocket to the back of the door handle. It mounts horizontal. You have to open the lid to see it. I don't remember if it has a washer, though, so I'm probably wrong.

Just open the lid on the driver's door. You can see if the screw is missing or not:

Looking at my pic, though, I don't think that's the same screw.
