window putty
i had to remove the front quarter window on my targa (78) for some repairs. there was some putty there to stop noise i imagine and it is old and crumbling. is there a prefered product for this ?
thanks |
Butyl rope. Butyl tape. 3M will call it Window-Weld. If you can't find a small enough diameter you can simply stretch it. Works great to seal moisture barriers to the inside of the doors. It's cheap enough to buy a roll but if you just need enough for the quarter windows stop by you local auto glass shop. They might sell you just what you need. -J
3M 08620 Window-Weld 1/4" x 15' Round Ribbon Sealer Roll : Amazon.com : Automotive http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...-L._SX385_.jpg |
It's also called dum-dum although I am not sure of the spelling.

i went to the local glss repair shop and he gave me a couple feet of the butyl stuff for nothing .. worked great ...I am sure it will be WAY quieter now ..
Actually the reason i had it apart is i was replacing the drivers side actuator, I had to pull out the regulator slid eon that side anyway so i cleaned and adjusted the whole thing to see if i could make it quiter .. quite a good project .. I have enouggh left over to seal up the window on the other side too if that is all cracking. |
