SC/Carrera tail rubber - known issue?

Hi All -
The tail on my car is driving me nuts. From the rear, when compared to the other lines of the car, it is not level - it drops a bit on the passenger side. It is the rubber - not the part that is attached to the deck lid. I have tried heat to reshape it, but with no luck. I finally just shimmed my deck lid. The body gap is now pretty poor to my eye, but the tail is now level from the back of the car.

Here is the thing.... I see this same issue with piles of cars on this site. Is this normal/am I just being to anal? If not, anyone have a "real" fix?

Before the shim (at the hinge):
