3.2L Distributor has centrifugal advance, why?

My 86 Euro 3.2L engine has a stock distributor and I happen to notice it has centrifugal advance. My question is why is centrifugal advance needed with Motronic DME? The ignition timing is already fully controlled by the DME so why did the factory also decide on a distributor with centrifugal advance?

I also would like to have the specs (ignition curve) for this distributor so I know at what RPM the centrifugal advance is fully in? Anyone have specs for these 3.2L distributors?

Thanks.

Thanks for the old thread! Rotor phasing makes perfect sense. I'd still love to see the specs for these distributors so I know how much it phases across the RPM range.
