Measure oil temp using meat temp gauge

Am I incorrect with my assumption that the best way to measure oil temp is with a meat temperature gauge in the hot oil down the oil add tube??

Assumption contributors:
Oil pressure is fast in an early engine. What is the oil pressure at 1000RPM, warm in a early Porsche engine? Around 20 PSI?

I don't have oil coolers on the front of the car - just the original oil cooler at the back of the engine. The distance from the hot engine parts and holding tank is short.

My meat temperature sensor is long and I know it is in hot oil as it sensor end is longer than my dip stick.

Opinions Please

Thanks
Steve

A 2.7 will need an additional cooler, fender or otherwise, but you will need it if you drive remotely hard.

Steve,
I think a thermometer would work just fine, just don't drop it in the tank!

I did almost the same thing with my MG, except I used the thermometer in the radiator to test water temp.
Or you could get an infrared temp gun and test that way. SmileWavy

This outfit makes an oil temp/gauge replacement for the dip stick.
