Installed M K exhaust, clamp question

Installed the one in one out muffler to a previously installed M K premuffler and I have a question concerning the spring loaded band clamps. Just how tight do you make the clamp? I tightned till about one inch of the thread came past the lock nut and feel the the system is very solid against the bracket but also know there is more to go if the spring is to bottom out. I stopped at about the midpoint of first complete contact of the clamp and half way of the screw. Thanks for any insight.

I tighten mine fully compressing the spring, then back off 3-4 full turns. - just to be sure that the strap conforms to the shape of the hangers on the engine side.
- a 1/4in drive, 11 mm deep-well socket, is your best friend here.
