Fog Lamp Knob: Fixable?

So in my new '84 Targa, the fog lamp knob isn't connected to anything, just stuck in the hole where it goes, not attached to anything. It looks like this:

When I look into the space where it goes, it looks like there are contacts for it to connect to. The best pic I could get of it:

Is there a way to put this back together? It appears as though there is perhaps a piece that screws onto the knob, and connects to the contacts. Is this the case? Any specific part I need? Any other info or advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

It appears from your picture there are threads in the hole to screw the knob piece into. Try screwing it in.

Thanks for the reply. Those pictures are a bit deceiving. What appears to be threads on the socket are part of where it connects to the dash. The contacts sit about 3 inches back, just beyond where the threads on the knob are. It looks as though the knob would screw onto another part, which then somehow attaches to the socket, and touches the contacts.

Take it out and post a picture. Probably somebody can tell if there are parts missing.

I have an earlier model of the fog light switch that I want to install in my '79SC. Here are some pictures of it. I still have to look for a light socket that seems to go into the center from the back were the wire terminals are located. The transparent rod in the knob should act as a light guide from the bulb in the back to the face of the knob. In your case I suspect that the metal rod in the back of your know would unscrew from the knob and also expose ae translucent light guide. That is my guess. Hope it helps.

You need a socket like this one

These sockets are also used in the instruments.

and it is connected like this

Thanks, donporfi, that is a great help. It should not bee too hard to find one of these light sockes.

OK, thanks, that helps a lot. I will try pulling it out, and seeing if I can figure out what is missing. It may just be a case of not being able to get the shaft to screw in with it in the car the way it is. I appreciate the information.
