'74 Muffler question....
I just received a '74 SS muffler, dual in, single out. There is a little tube coming off the muffler near the passenger side inlet. Looks like I'll need to block this off for use on my 80SC. Anyone know of a part to do this with? Looks like a 1/2 in AN fitting of some sort.
Also, I know this is really retentive, but are there any good SS cleaners out there? thanks -Brad 80SC |

Brad:
That tube is were the EGR valve discharge line went (large compression fitting). Might as well have it welded off, or run a stainless steel bolt in there (not my preference).

Thanks marcesq!
There are also some very fine carbon/rust particles falling out of the muffler. I am sure the baffles on the 28 year old muffler are pretty well worn. Do I need to be concerned about the internals, other than the possible increase in noise, er, uh sound ![]() cheers -Brad |

That all depends on what decible level you can tolorate. Other than that no real problem, although some might say that a hollow muffler could create a swirling effect and add to back pressure rather than help it, but I wouldn't worry about it unless there is backfiring.
