Exclamation Jackstands on asphalt...don't do it

I just moved into a new home with an asphalt drive, and not remembering 10+ years of motorcycle experience, I put the Carrera up on stands in the driveway. When I cam home yestrerday, the car was sitting on the ground, jackstands had slipped off the T-tubes. D'OH!!

No damage to the car, and I'm lucky.

Sooo, Put boards under your jackstands if you work on an asphalt suface.

I really hate to admit to such stupidity, but my hope is that I can keep sombody else from doing the same thing.

Ultimate Asphalt Stupidity

Let's see, what stupid things have I done on asphalt...
  • Age 15, my summer job was operating tractors on a farm. Drove a Cat D8e across a road, and halfway across, hit the left brake to do a quick 30-degree rotation to line up better with the dirt road on the other side. I peeled up a section of blacktop big enough to park a 911 on.
  • Age 18, (in the summer, again) pulling the engine in a friend's bug, on the street. Put a piece of plastic in the fuel line to plug it off. Plastic melts, fuel runs out over the course of a day onto the hot asphalt, turns it into goo. Upon re-installation of the engine, we tore thru all the way to the dirt.
  • Age 20, changing a tire on a bug, on the street, again in the summer heat. Jack the car up with the factory jack, take the tire off to get it fixed, leave bug up in the air. Upon return, found that the jack had sank a good 3" into the asphalt!

Funny you mention it. Yesterday I got the "my brakes are making a noise" call. Pad material fell off and ate large amounts of rotor away. Had to fix on asphalt. It was hot. I knew it would sink.

I just tried to work fast
