Thanks for all the help with my CIS! She's finally running perfect.
I just wanted to take the time to thank all my fellow Pelicans for helping me out with my CIS issues. Especially Tony- Boyt911sc, Bob Kontak, Peter Zimmerman, Timmy2, CIS for dummies thread and more!
I know it would have taken me much more time and cost me much more $$$ without all your help. My 76 2.7 had been sitting for 15 + years and full of varnished fuel when I bought it 2 years ago. I was able to get the car running in fairly short order but it never ran perfect. I had some hard starting and low RPM bucking problems that were driving me crazy. After receiving lots of help on this forum I finally have a perfect running 2.7 CIS. She starts up instantly, no more bucking and she pulls like crazy in all gears. The car no longer runs above 215 degrees either. Here is a long list of what I did to the CIS system during the past year. ( Not in any particular order) 1. Removed the fuel tank, cut an access hole in the top of the tank and thoroughly cleaned an inch of varnished goop. I also opened up the swirl pot and cleaned out lots of crud that was stuck in the pot. Cleaning a Fuel Tank without damaging Plastic Swirl Pot 2. Blew out fuel lines and ran Seafoam through the fuel system. 3. Replaced mesh screen at bottom of tank. 4. Replaced Fuel pump and fuel pump relay 5. Replaced injectors, injector bushings and O-rings 6. Replaced points, plugs etc including new Porsche braided plug wires. 7. Set valves and ignition timing. 8. Rebuilt WUR and Fuel Distributor. Larry at CIS Flowtech in Alabama did the rebuild. 9. Replaced Air box. (old one was cracked) I chose not to install a pop off valve because of the things I read on this forum written by Peter Zimmerman. forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/3339971-post13.html 10. Installed new intake runner boots. 11. Installed new fuel accumulator. 12. Installed new cold start valve. 13. Replaced air filter 14. Installed new Decel Valve 15. Adjusted fuel pressure and gas settings. I know some people will say that I didn't have to replace all the CIS components but I found that they all needed to be replaced and now I have the confidence in knowing that I can drive my car anywhere without worrying that it won't start or run properly. I'm taking her to Vermont next week for a cruise on one of the nicest country roads on the planet, Route 100! Thanks again Matt ![]()

Thanks Gary, The forecast looks great for my trip. I'm planning to go from southern VT to the Canadian border via Rt 100. Plenty of twist, turns, hiils and mountains along the way!

Just keep an eye out for radar traps, they even get you driving toward you in VT!

Thanks for the tip Gary, I've been thinking about buying a radar detector and now seems like a good time to invest in one. Of course I have no plans to exceed the speed limit!! Any suggestions for Radar Detectors?

Valentine 1 or one of the better Passports for radar, Laser is a whole other ball game. I have 2 V1's, have not been ticketed since getting them.

Congratulations!!!!!!!
Matt,
Not only is your targa looks beautiful but it has gained something car owners would like to get. The award you won at the Rhode Island car show last weekend gave credit to the condition of your car. BTW, thanks for the personalized boat tour you gave my wife and I. And it has been our pleasure to meet such a nice guy like you. Wish you the best. Tony |

Well done.
Your tenacity has paid off and not one CIS related fire to boot. (That I'm aware of...)

Nice 911 Matt. I live in Charlestown R.I and have a '74. I am having hot start issues and my current mechanic does not have the time to evaluate it at the moment. Is your mechanic that did all the CIS work local or did you do it yourself? I think I saw your car at the show in Portsmouth back in July, is that possible?

Thanks Jeff, I don't even mention the word fire around my car! But I do carry a Fire Extinguisher just in case.

Great work...isn't it fantastic when it all pays off with help from unseen friends. Lots of talent on this site.
I've an Escort Redline that works great....takes the heat better than a Valentine (Consumer rpts) and has the same range. Enjoy. |
