Post Advantage of Targa over a Coupe

I learned one great advantage of a Targa today. When on the freeway going 120 MPH with the top off, windows down, you can't hear your wife yealling at you to slow down!!

So 120+ must be the answer - mine starts complaining at 90!

There's also that extra 2" of headroom...I can't drive a Coupe unless I were to lower the seats somehow. Forget it with a helmet.

How much did that piss you off while you were searching for a 911?

I was on the freeway going 100 MPH and my wife kept saying "go faster, you've got a Valentine One". She's nuttier than I am.

She was also saying this when we were in a rented Passat driving on the Autostrada in Italy.

I should mention that this was on a long, straight, and empty highway.

Mine covers her eyes whenever I drop down a gear to overtake (something to do with LHD cars in the UK). The kids make up for it, though, by going "wheeeeeeee" from the back seats.

I once made excuses before she said anything, by saying
'She just wants to go!'(-the car).
Now everytime I let lose, she asks me
'I suppose she just wanted to go' and then she just smiles!

That could be an interesting topic all by itself - "Wives of Guys with P-Cars". My wife asked me to take it out to dinner with her girl friends last night. She promised to park it far away from any other cars, etc., etc. I said "NO". She drove it once while I was with her. She is a good driver but I still experienced slight chest pains. She did not understand that her few moments of personal pleasure could result in weeks/months/years of pain for me. I am reminded of a car I had as a young man while living with my parents. My mother walked through the garage and accidently bumped a small wooden ladder that fell over and put a bump, not a ding a bump in the fender of my car. It's sort of like running over your neighbors dog. Saying "I'm sorry" does not bring the dog back to life. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

Okay, I'm tired of listening to all of your men bellyache about this stuff.

I take better care of my car than any of you.

That's debateable, too. We take pretty good care of our cars.

Yeah, that extra 2" of headroom is good, BlueSky. And actually - I never once drove a Coupe. I was looking specifically for a Targa. I love having an open top with a rollbar for added safety.

Another great advantage of the Targa is that you can shower on the way to work!

I seriously doubt the the targa "rollbar" provides "added safety" over the coupe. The coupe is a much more rigid car, and much safer when doing any performance driving.

Coupes are better looking too.

He didn't say that a Targa has added safety over a coupe.

He said that a Targa has added safety over an "open car" (i.e. a cabriolet).

Coupes are better looking? Some of us may disagree. We are lucky that the good Doctor made more than one body configuation for the 911. That way we can each pick the one that turns us on.

Cool

I hear Monica Lewinsky needed 2 inches more headroom in her new Porsche, too....so she got one with tilt steering....

Bada bump....

reread his post, he said "open top" and was referring to the targa advantage over a cab.

I love the coupes, especially with a sunroof, but my old Targa (1972"S")holds a spot in my heart that no coupe could ever have.

About 5 year ago I was with my, then girlfriend (now wife), and we were moving at a pretty good clip with the targa top removed when all of a sudden we spotted a cop (he spotted us). I thought crap, he is going to catch me and I will go to jail. Instead of panicing, I pulled behind a gas station and put the top on very quickly. We pulled back out onto the road to see the cop looking all over for someone... presumably me.

The targa, as much as I hated the wind noise, occassional shower, and less than stiff handling characteristics, was a great car and it certainly had a few faces. I truly miss that car!

All The Best,

Marc

How do you arrive at the conclusion that he was referring to the targa advantage over a cab? A targa is an open top car, correct? He said he loved having an open top (TARGA) with the added safety of a rollbar. I agree that the rollbar in a Targa is an added safety feature.

However, I stated that it is NOT safer than a coupe, which is what I was comparing it too, seeing as though the topic of the thread is Coupe vs. Targa.

Please read his post again.... slowly.

Mr. Old_Skul stated "I love having an open top with a rollbar for added safety." "Having" meaning he has an open top car, in other words a Targa.

Now how do you arrive at the conclusion that he was comparing a Targa to a Cab?

if there is a comparison of "open top car" there are only two choices, targa or cab. therefore oldskul was saying that he likes an open top car (cab or targa) with a rollbar = targa.

i know the subject said targa vs. coupe. maybe that is why you became confused.
