1966 Re-Build

Hi there. I have owned my 1966 911 for 41 years. Vin #303636. Last time I got serious about a restoration was back in 1980. Re-chromed and decent paint job. I am going a bit deeper this time around and have found some managable rust problems in the front fenders meeting the body. Cutting to the chase scene:

I special ordered part # 901-501-310-20 from Pelican Parts. This is a bracket that secures the rubber front bumper seal in the hood area. My bracket has some issues, but I can't figure out how to remove it. Spot welds I suppose, but I can't find them.

No other major issues to report. I would like to find a muffler for the gas heater.

Thanks...........Skeeters

spot weld locations

Hi
You need to run a wire wheel or sanding disk along the area where the welds are and they begin to show up because even if you can't see it with the eye they have a shallow depression where the paint will remain.

You can either cut them out with a spot weld cutter, drill then out or very carefully grind away taking only the old rotten metal.

Spot weld the piece of metal you want to remove and the base metal as well. I prefer not to do that as there are too many holes to fill later and the heat from welding can distort the panel.

I'm sure if you search enough you will find some good photos of the piece being restored. good luck with it.
