problem with low oil light on 88 carrera

i'm having a problem with my 88 carrera. i just starting noticing this problem recently. after the car has warmed up, the oil light comes on. when i check the oil level, it's right in the middle of the dip stick. i also smell some oil burning from inside the car and outside when i park it. the oil light won't go off. i don't know what the problem is. any help would be great. thanks in advance.

Bentley's service manual cautions "if the red oil pressure warning light comes on or flashes on while driving, always assume that the oil pressure is low".

And you should test oil pressure. The book states standard automotive oil pressure testing equipment works well.
It cautions not to drive until problem is corrected.

Stop driving until you get it checked. My engine seized earlier this year due to PO garage blue towel placed in oil line to stop dripping I can only assume. No oil light even had time to come on - very costly.

Better safe then sorry. Good luck

the oil light switch often leaks (oil smell) and the light comes on even though the pressure gauge reads normally.
