Porsches on display at NC Art Museum

I was in Raleigh, NC yesterday for the opening of the North Carolina Museum of Art's Porsche exhibit: "Porsche by Design: Seducing Speed" and it was a fantastic exhibit featuring a keynote presentation by noted filmmaker and Porsche racer Jeff Zwart, and some really fantastic cars on display from several collections including the Ingram collection, Cameron Healy, and others.

I also had the opportunity to meet Mr. Alwyn Springer who autographed my book. The exhibit includes about 25 cars, including several that are seldom seen outside the museum, such as the 16 cyl 917 "uber-wagen", Dan Gurney's F1 winning type 804, and the very early "Berlin - Rome" aerodynamic racer. The overall presentation of the cars was very similar to the museum - I suspect that when the museum gets involved, they have a particular way that they want the cars displayed. Still, you could get within a foot or so of them and really get a sense of the details, with lighting sufficient for great pictures.

Here's the ling to the NCMA's website

And a link to the photo gallery on Sports Car Digest's web site

Lastly, my own pics from the event

This exhibit is a MUST SEE if you are anywhere near Raleigh, NC. I believe it runs thru January. Highly recommended. Wow!

Thanks, awesome. I am impressed by the rare cars in a smaller city, they did very well.

A bit too far for a drive, too bad.

Regards, David

I am going to Durham the second weekend of November to see my daughter and grandkids. I think it needs to be on the calendar.

There are 2 Mondays where the engines bays will be opened for NCMA members. I'll be there Nov 18th!
