From Spark Plugs to Vacuum Advance?

I'm gonna get this right if it kills me....

The last post I wrote, I asked about the right spark plug wires to replace my worn out originals. Great information from all. However, while replacing the wires with the Mangecors, I noticed a couple of times the distributor cap rose off its seat as I pulled the old wires off. No big deal I thought, I didn't move the distributor itself, I was sure I was good to go. NOT! I now have a hesistation in acceleration and as it comes back down to idle, the engine almost dies. It barely recovers itself and comes back to a "normal" idle again.

Are we talking about vacuum advance now (that's the word from a neighbor)? Again, if I SLOWLY build RPMs up to 3000 or so, it's just fine. But if I release the throttle suddenly, it performs as described above - it almost dies. Aaarrrrgh!

Got any ideas?

If you want any useful information without wasting time filling in the details each time ... how about providing the year model and engine version in your FIRST post in the future???

In that case, you are barking up the wrong tree! The 3.2 distributor has no advance mechanism whatsoever, and no adjustments ... just a single hole for the locating stud!

The DME EPROM contains all of the ignition advance data in a 'map' that considers engine temperature, rpm, throttle position, airflow, and altitude into account!

If the problem didn't exist before the Magnecor and you mention the cap rising as you pulled on it (next time push down with one hand and pull plug wire with the other), then you may just need to reseat the cap (properly fit it). Just a thought.

That business about idle dropping to almost nothing, and then recovering when you snap the throttle closed is not unusual. My car is doing it. It has nothing to do with ignition timing.
