front bumper strip

Does anyone have a good method to get the front bumper strip on an SCtype bumper? Please don't tell me i have to pull the bumper. Has anyone done the quarter window strip? I suggest letting the old one stay on!
John

Are you asking about the bumper strip, or the "smile"?

The strip is easy. One screw at each end of the strip, then slide it off. The strip is attached with several small clips. Assuming that the clips weren't destroyed during the removal, installation is the reverse... it just slides on

The "smile" is a bit more involved.

Not the smile, but the strip. I need to get it back on, as with most of this car getting something off is easy, getting it on, well.....

Hi:
Alternate method.....
Notice that the bumper has a bunch of white, female connectors ( 7?)..and that the black rubber strip has a white, "H" cross-section strip along its backside. The "H" strip can be "pre-loaded" with the "inverse-H", male plugs that will soon match the female connectors already in the bumper.
Align the male and female pieces for close fit ( by sliding the inverse "H" plugs along the white strip), and sequentially slap the bumper in-place with a sharp rap from your fist....going from one end of the bumper strip to the other ( left-to-right, as it were).
I just did this in my 85...but I bought new female / male clips on the re-install, since some of the old ones were mushed-out a bit.
