Exhuast Upgrade:SSi or RUF style??
Hi all, I have a'76 C3 with the standard cross over 1 in 1 out system. I am wanting to upgrade to the SSI but realise it is both expensive and very hard to find for my model (I can't find any available on pelicans).
I found this photo of a '75 Carrera RS RUF with no SSI's. Just wondering if I should do the same. Would it be beneficial to have the RUF type? Would it be louder? Would it be cheaper? I would be able to get it fabricated at one of the local exhaust shops unlike the SSI which would have to be sourced & probably shipped internationally to Australia. Any opinions/experience would be great. Will RUF http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382055800.jpg SSI with my scribbling http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382055907.jpg |
I should also mention that my C3 runs CIS and will be staying that way for good.

I think any SSI will fit the C3? Might have to change the exhaust studs if you get thick vs thin flange or vice versa (thats a hole different discussion).
The photo I dont believe is ruf? its just plain old headers with megaphones welded to a 2 out bannana. Very loud but cool. Also straight headers = no heat. Are you Ok with that? |

Oh, so there would be no in-car heater without the SSI setup. The photo is of a '74 RS RUF that is for sale. I assumed it was the stock system RUF used. I did not realise any SSi would fit. I see them listed on Pelican parts for various models with MFI. The CIS ones appear to be discontinued. |
The only difference on the MFI SSIs is the connection for the warm up tube. I am of the impression that you could just cap that pipe for non MFI cars.
Now that I think about it the new owners of SSI are advertising different pipe diameters so you need to make sure that they are the right size for a 3.0. Yeah 911s get the heat off the exhaust, if you want heat in the cabin you cant go straight headers. |

When it comes time for the exhaust I'll take the measurements and find the appropriate model. Will |
SSI only made one tubing size (1.5"), so if new owners are reporting a different size it ain't SSI.
Those look like "European" headers on the car adverstised as Ruf. Be careful with that as you can add a Ruf emblem to anything. |
Get a set of SSI, and a muffler from Rarlyl8.
