Oil leak rear of engine....

Hi all,

Anyone to help me diagnose this leak. Picture is taken just by muffler.

Do I need to drop engine to change the seal?

Christian.

Hej Christian,

Looks like that it is actually the rear cover with nuts. What is it called?

The rear console you can see on the back end of the engine is the Engine mount console which is holding the back end of the engine - it is not a cover that can leak oil.

Clean it, put some white powder on the engine, drive for a while and you see where it comes from. It seldom is from where the drops are.....

Thanks Ed, Will do!

There is no dripping now that the engine is cold - it only appears when it is at running temperature!

So it's likely somewhere at the top end of the engine. But then again, a hot engine and thin oil might leak anywhere.
Good luck,
Ed

I have the same leak, but it doesn't matter, hot or cold, it still leaks

Could be from the #8 nose bearing, intermediate shaft cover or cam towers. The cover can be addressed easily, the nose bearing requires splitting the case. Cam towers are involved, too

You need to clean the inside of the black box and get all oil out and then look with a flashlight where the oil is coming from.
