Oil Tank Drain Plug
After a recent service I' was told that my suposedly refurbished oil tank has virtually no thread left on it!
![]() What I need to know is the thread size of the tank's plug. I plan to tap the drainage hole slightly bigger and fit a new plug.

Hi:
I'm fairly certain it is 22mm..but best if someone else confirms. --Wil Ferch |

Chris,
The threads are M22 x 1.5, but I don't think there is anywhere near enough material to tap it out larger! My suggestion would be to remove the tank and clean thoroughly, grind off the old stripped neck, and braze on a 3-5 mm thick plate that has already been threaded for the drain plug.

Follow Warren's suggestion, then add a Fumoto drain valve. Don't know if Pelican carries them - about $15 last time I looked.

Thanks guys.
Warren, I guess I was just trying to avoid removing the tank again. It can be a real pain.

Thanks for the tip about the valve Sherwood! I ordered one from here and plan to basically glue it into place with plastic metal (or other adhesive) making it a pernament fixture on my car. Obviously the surfaces shall be well prep'd.
Thanks again lads! ![]() Maybe I'll help someone in the future instead of everyone helping me!
