Post fogging up oil/fuel gage

Here's a weird phenomenon. What is causing my oil level/fuel level gage to fog up on the inside of the bezel when I am driving the car in the morning? This seems awfully strange to me, especially since it doesn't happen during other times of the day. Thanks for your help.

Water condensation. Normal for a cool morning with moisture in your guage. This is not uncommon, mine will sometimes do it during rainy season. I pull a light bulb from the back of the guage and let it ventilate for a while. That seems to fix the problem. Also make sure your windshield is not leaking.

I am in Louisiana, high humidity causes mine to fog occasionally. They clear up when the humidity goes away.

Bob's right about checking for windshield leak on the lower driver side corner. Some cars develop some pretty bad leaks in that area. Make sure.

And it wouldnt fog the whole things just like an egg shape in the bottom and was about the size of agolfball from what i ever noticed.. None of my other gauges did this just the one.. Weird!

This is a pretty much universal problem/phenomenon with 911s - at least all those with the classic 5 guage layout.

Its nothing to get worried about - probably something to do with the guage's location and the airflow/temps in the area behind it...

It is wierd ...mine does the same thing.
Must have something to do with the arrangement and/or design of that particular gauge.
I even thought about removing it and sealing the back of it up with some RTV.

Mine does the same, and thats the only gauge that gets warm too. I think thats why it condensates, but have no idea why the glass gets warm.

Thanks for confirming what I was beginning to suspect - that it is just one more idiosynchracy associated with 911 ownership. Thanks for all the replies.

I have a cheap and quick fix taken from my experience in military aviation for this problem that I will share. Go to wal-mart and buy a bucket of Silica beads which are used to remove moisture from humidity prone enclosures Etc. get an empty plastic prescription bottle (peferably one of the taller ones). Drill about ten 1/16 inch holes all around it, Lid, bottom, sides, etc. Take some self sticking velcro and mount it either next to, or on the guage itself.
this should cure the condensation problem in a few days. After it shows up again in the slightest just change out the beads. Voila!! Of course we dont use prescrpition bottles in the Military. It's hard to justify $280.00 for the little buggers.

Cool

Bringing up an old post, but with all the rain here lately, seven days straight, I see this happening.

My thought is maybe the moist air is coming in through the hood seal. The back of the gauge is exposed to the trunk area. I'm thinking a new trunk seal will cure this, although mine is really not too bad, but now I wonder.

Has anyone put in a new trunk seal and found an end to the foggy fuel gauge?

All my seals are perfect and mine do the same thing very early in the morning from dew I guess.

Question

Can anyone in the Houston, TX area recommend someone to paint my 911. I can never get anyone (whose not in the business) to commit to who does great paint jobs.
