RE: Fuchs 16 x 7/8 Tire Sizes

What tire size is recommended on 8x16 Fuchs on the rear of a 1980 SC if I am running 225/50/16 on the front 7x16's? These are street tires, not track tires. Thanks in advance.

245/45-16. Not much left available in that size. Last I saw, just Bridgestone RE-11a

The RE-11 is a very narrow tire. It does not look good at all on Fuchs under SC fenders, even in the 245.

This 15" and 16" tire issue is a huge problem for anybody looking for something larger than a 225/50. Unless some top shareholder or CEO of a major tire brand becomes an air-cooled Porsche fanatic soon, or we all concede to running Toyo R888's or Hoosiers on the street, I'm afraid we're all doomed to 17" rims in the near future.

I'm having good luck with R888's in 225/50 front and 235/50 rear, and getting 4,000 miles with three or four track days before they heat cycle out and get hard....that's long before the tread is gone. But, they suck in the rain. I've been caught in the rain twice, and wasn't comfortable going more the 55mph on the highway leaving LOTS of braking room in front. I'm in sunny Southern California, so rainy days are avoidable. I wouldn't want R888's in a wetter climate.

Toyo Ra1 245/45/16 for the 8s and 225/50/16 for the 7s.

Some of us are running with 245/50/16 on the rear 8x16 Fuchs

I am running RE-11's, 205/55 up front and 225/50 in the rear. No issue. Excellent on both the street and the track. IMO, a 245/45 is a better fit on a 9" than 8".

Swiftmotoring 10-23-2013 08:37 AM

Hal I am hearing from a surprising number of people that they are running 225-55-16 on 8x16 Fuchs....that is the same size I run on my 7x16 Fuchs....maybe 6&7 x 16 Fuchs are the way to go.

I saw a chart here several years ago on tires and wheel width. What I "remember" taking away was 225/50 was as OK on 7" and 8". I also seem to remember someone saying that 245/45 was a bit too wide for 8" but would probably work. Just that 225/50 was a better fit.

YMMV, but that is the rule of thumb I have used and have been very happy.

Go for 205/55 and 225/50 on 16"x7/8" fuchs. Works great, also looks good :)
(Using that combo myself with Bridgestone Potenza S02)

+1 on RE-11A... fantastic tire. I personally think it looks amazing on these cars, very aggressive looking. 225 on 8's is perfect.

From Toyo web page:The approved rim width for the Proxes RA1
225/50ZR16 6.0-7.0-8.0
245/45ZR16 7.5-8.0-9.0

a lot of folks have problems with 205/55-16 tires on 7" fuchs fronts rubbing the inside front fenders -- I'd suspect that 225/50 would have the potential to cause more severe rubbing issues. You might want to consider putting the 225/50-16's on the 8" fuchs and getting a pair of 205/55-16 for the 7" fronts

I've really enjoyed my continental extreme contact dw tires in that combo for the past few summers.

+1 on 225/8 & 205/7... 245 fits better on 9'. 245 on 8's are just to bubbly also 225 on 7's are just as bloated.

Thanks for all the recommendations. What size is optimal for track days on 7/8 x16?

With RE-11's and 7's on the front with 205/55, I had to roll my fenders. With 8's in the rear, 225/50's no problems.

I am finding the RE-11 a very good DE tire, but very sensitive to hot pressures. On my 996, 38 hot is perfect. A buddy with a SC is a couple of pounds lower.

Swiftmotoring 10-28-2013 02:01 PM

Anyone use the Potenza RE 01R for track events?

Halm 10-28-2013 06:01 PM

That is a pretty old tire isn't it? Tire Rack doesn't carry it and the only review I found was from 2008.
