Did I damage my CDI??

This afternoon I accidentally hit a fuse in my engine compartment with a screwdriver. I only hit it for a split second but it did cause a spark and a tiny bit of smoke. Would this cause any damage to the CDI unit. I have a 76 911, CIS 2.7. It didn't cause the fuse to blow.

You might be alright. When I had my SC I was reinstalling the battery one day. As I was tightening the bolt on the positive terminal the wrench accidently touched the body of the trunk. BIG scary spark and flash. Nothing was fried and everything worked normally.

Thanks, I'm not sure yet, I'm in the middle of replacing a fuel hose. I'll know by tomorrow. What are the fuses in the engine compartment for?

Think about it...the fuse is in the feed to whatever it powers.
If you short the fuse to ground...you have shorted BEFORE the CDI or whatever.
This does not cause power to go through the CDI...it only effects the fuse and the wire leading up to the CDI.

Engine fuses are labeled as 1, 2, and 3.

1.) blue and yellow (sportmatic optional) wire connected to a solid red which is most likely a switched 12v source.
2.) red with white stripe wire which also gets power from the red 12v switched source then goes to the 14 pin connector and finally to the warmup regulator.
3.) red and black wire which I’m pretty sure gets power from the battery on the opposite side of the fuse and in turn goes to the rear window defogger relay which should have a black, red and two brown ground wires coming from it.

Fuse #3 is the only one that has power from the battery - that's the one you must have touched. Mine powers the rear window defogger that hasn't worked since I bought the car.
