Not sure what you mean by aftermarket shock, but the shocks do not determine ride hieght for your car. I have been told that bilsteins have a tendency to lift the rear end of cars that were not originally equiped with them, but ultimatly, the ride hieght is adjusted by moving the spring plates up and down on the torsion bars.

See Chuck Moreland's tech article here:

Hope this helps.

Good point Bell. Welcome! Now get Wayne's Book!!!

J/K here. I have a '81 that I'm getting ready to lower and put new shocks on too. Of course that's only the beginning of the project list, and I've owned it for five years. You really have come to the right place. This BB has shown me how much I can do and convinced me of how much I can do myself. Stick w/ Pelican & Good Luck!

Just a note from experience but shocks do effect the ride height of the car IF they are worn!
I would advise fitting new shocks before adjusting height if they are suspected as being old.
I had my car raised (it was too low) up to Euro height when I got it. I later fitted Koni adjustable rear shocks which lifted the rear of the car over an inch!.
Just something to concider!
Regards Ben
