1969 Irish Green Paint Question
I have a 1969 911 fully restored and ready to paint. The original color is Irish Green. I know the paint code is 6806. My painter wants to paint the car in a single stage urethane. The various local paint suppliers seem to be shooting from the hip and I am not confident that any of the colors they are showing me are correct. How do I get the correct formula so that I can assure they mix the color right. I have a schedule with the paint booth saturday and would appreciate any help.
Thanks, John

Find an Irish Green car and go and see it in person?
The formula should be very close but so much depends on the guy mixing the paint. EDIT: Do you have a restoration shop nearby that specialises in older Porsche's?

Hi Peter. I have not found an original car to color sample, but that would be the best way. I did find an old post about a Glasurit formula matched to an original car, but the formula is in base coat/clear coat. I am having that mixed up and sprayed. I will then try and scan it and mix it in PPG single stage. Not sure I am heading in the right direction though.

Most paint is following the CA format of base then clear. If you are in a State that still allows single stage it's the better choice for color match.

Another suggestion is to post this on the paint and body forum. There are some very knowledge people that own body shops and can respond from their experience.
Good luck Bob |

I would seek out the most recent Glassurit 22 Line single stage formula!
Many old paint formulas are no longer being supported with the current move to Water Borne paint technology. Glassurit is still supporting many of the Old formulas. Their current water borne is 90 Line. I had a pint of GPX White mixed up for a blend on a client car. 1 pint of color was $125.00 + more for the "reducer" Love the Irish Green. Good luck with your repaint. Cooper |

I would contact user 304065 (that is his actual pelican userid)
He knows a bit about Irish Green.

If you poke around on the basf/glasurit website you will find a color tool that will give you the color formula.
I have read, however, that the modern formula is "off". Also apparently you can still buy 22 line - although my local BASF distributor gave me a blank stare. Would love to hear/see the results of your quest. |
