Help identify studs 78sc

Bought this car in August with zero history.

Upon disassembly, I find ALL 24 STUDS NON- MAGNETIC.

They appear powder coated (black and shiny)

has some PO installed 24 Dilaver studs?

or what?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1382710156.jpg

If they're non magnetic then they must be dilivar. Take the time to change the lower studs to steel.

.

I don't get why All studs would be Dilaver...???
Top and bottom!

So, don't I need to chNGEALL 24?

The '78 car was originally fitted with upper steel studs, and lower Dilavar studs that had a somewhat dull gold, brushed, finish. The studs in your engine were introduced early in the '82 production year, and installed by a PO. You can leave them as-is, or you can replace only the UPPER studs with steel. If your goal is truly long-life, you can install upper steel studs, and 993 lower studs (the full-threaded TT type). Carefully examine each stud about two inches from the outer tip, this is the place where moisture collects and studs break.

Thought. Have you verified that your engine is a '78, and not a transplant?

easy removal

So, this afternoon I started the stud removal process with some trepidation, having read multiple stories of events gone awry during the stud removal...

I got all ready with Map gas torch and stud puller and ...
they came right out as if there was no locktite at all

I was done in about 40 minutes... 2 of them were barely wrench tight

all 24 Dilavers are out and 24 used OEM steel are on the way from Tom Butler at Rernnshop...
thanks, Tom!
