no start this morning, sitting duck in 2-hour parking!

so it begins.

after running great all weekend I hopped in my new (to me) 69 911t to take it over to the DMV and she decided it wasn't gonna happen. turned the key and not a peep from the starter, though the dash lights would turn on.

any obvious trouble-shooting I should do before calling the truck? I'm in a 2-hour spot so I can't fiddle for too long.

oh, and ironically enough this showed up this morning too:

should make for good browsing while I wait

My car will bump start with as little as 10 feet of open road, if you really put your back into it.
You'll have it running in 30 seconds.

If anyone is around and willing to help push, it's literally 10 seconds.

so I was parked at the top of a hill here in SF, tried bump starting twice on the way down, no dice. tow is here now, heading over to The Stable. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Did you try the broomstick method: Sometimes the starter relay gets stuck and you need to whack it with a broomstick to make it go.

Check and clean your ground strap on the transmission. Very common problem. Maybe you will get lucky and this is the problem. Easy to do before the hotwire.

they got to the hot wiring before I could suggest the transmission's ground. good news is it fired right up. anyone have a spare 911 ignition switch lying around?

Time to upgrade ignition system?

Did you have the fuel pump buzzing?

The only time mine wouldn't start was due to one of 2 things:

1) Fuel pump wasn't buzzing when the key was turned on (loose connection in the relay)
2) Green wire from the distributor

no fuel pump buzz, dash lights not turning on, me things the relay is toast.

bummer is that 69s were an oddball year, don't share ignition switches with earlier or later cars.
