Humming sound
So, I have this humming sound.
Not speed related, random and I cannot control when it happens. It does not always happen when it cold, and after a while it comes on and goes on and off at random. I can make it stop by hitting the brakes. So I replaced the front bearings. And ball joints. Came back the next day. It vibrates the steering wheel, and the tone does not change like a cv joint or bearing would do. Here is the odd part. When I just touch the brakes, just enough to get the brake lights to activate, but not enough to get the brakes to apply, the noise stops. A friend suggested it may be electrical... This is a 1984 Carreras convertible with 240k miles... So I read about the in tank fuel filter sock, and how a warm or hot fuel pump will hum. I may do that swap anyways just because of the high mileage. This car has hummed since I bought it over two years ago, and I replaced the fuel pump and fuel pump relay (under the seat) at that time so I would not end up being stranded... Still humming, and has gotten louder now. Rich |
Could be a brake caliper piston not retracting, letting a pad drag against a rotor.
