question about steering column play
I installed my prototipo wheel the other day and now have a concern about my steering column. I seem to have about 1/8" play up and down and side to side when I have both hands on the wheel.
The nut that held on my wheel was very tight to take off , but I was as careful as I could be removing it. I used an impact wrench to loosen it while I was holding the wheel. Perhaps I just noticed it now being I was working on the wheel. Maybe it was there all along. If this is not normal? Perhaps there is an adjustment, or something I need to tighten up? Maybe I am missing some shim in my hub? As always , your help is appreciated. |
Most likely you need to replace the bushing at the top of the steering shaft. Pull the steering wheel off, and you should be able to see the bushing that pushes down around the shaft. Wayne has them here at Pelican, part no F-347-739-02.
Make sure this is the correct part for a '70 - it's what I used on my '77, but I don't know for sure on your year.. Larry |
thanks.... says for 74-89. Is this OK for my early car anyone?
