Oil residue in engine bay.

After I drive my car a few hundred miles I notice a light splatter of oil on my fan and other places on engine. All hoses are tight and I have new oil filler cap. I'm not talking a lot of oil but where does it come from? I do not see a leak anywhere. Oil level is fine but would a bit too much oil cause this. Thanks, Nick

actually on the fan i would say is a little unusual , it is definitely being brought in from somewhere. Mine leaks just about everywhere else but not there. maybe a loose cam line fighting or tensioner fitting ?

Check the oil sender switch, close enough to the fan to suck up a slight leak. You don't want that to fail while on a trip

Very strange. Everything is dry. Sometimes I notice a bit of A/C oil around a fitting. I just wrapped a piece of paper towel around it and will keep watch of it. The only places that I see oil is on the fan and on the area where the decals (where lid is closed) are on the right hand side. That is where the A/C is so maybe?

Look on the underside of your engine lid. If you see a line of oil (transverse across decklid), your AC seal is leaking.

Nick good catch. I feel you have found your leak as freon carries oil in it.

OK, this is what I have found....With deck lid up there is a lot of oily residue (light, not dripping) under the lid on the right side. The side with the compressor. Light black oil also builds up just above the the gold firing order decal in that painted area. So, the places it builds up is there, the fan and under the deck lid on the right hand side. I checked all hoses and the sender. All dry. Next thing I will try is to see if it shows up with A/C off after a hundred miles or so. Might only show up on a trip with A/C under pressure. Nothing showed up with car and A/C running for about 20 minutes. I guess it's time, things were just going too well.

Nick,
Did anyone mess with your hydraulic cam tensioner lines....I had the same issue with a 'misting' of oil and one of the cam tensioner connectors was not properly seated. Loosened then retightened as it has a kind of ball seat that can hang up and be tightened but can seep....

Nope. I just did a tune up and cars runs great. If it was a hydraulic cam tensioner where would the oil come from? Where would it come in from? Where is the tensioner located? I don't see oil leaking anywhere....but it is!

I did look on the underside of the lid. On the right side there is a thick film of oil up above the condenser. But all fittings are dry. There are no drips or wet spots on the fittings. It looks like the film was sprayed up there.
