Unhappy She left me today...

Well brothers, (& sisters), she's gone. I sold her today to a friend of mine who will take great care of her. I'm excited about the search for the next car, but I must admit I feel a little empty at the moment.

There's a song in this somewhere. Gonna have to play some blues here though.

carnut, the m roadster is for r22... i'm the one who test drove the m coupe. you know... the 'shoe'!

seriously, though, i've been also looking at 930's, but so far haven't seen any near mint examples in my price range yet.

guess i'll be singing the blues until the garage is full again. it's always fun being on the 'hunt' for the next car, though!!!

I have a close to "cherry" 87 911 red cab. My brother in law rcently bought an 80 SC Targa. He likes the car, but automatically wants to move up. Now all I hear is "when you want to sell your cab I will buy it". But I don't want to sell it. He looked at a similar car at a local dealer for $33K, but it was sold before he moved on it. Is the market for 87-89 911's really that hot? I am perfectly satisfied with mine, and have no interest in selling, just curious.

I'm not sure about cabs...they usually go for a few K over coupes. '87-'89 coupes can be had for anywhere from mid teens (high miles) to mid $20's (60K miles +/-). Add a few K more for either super low miles or concours/PCA types. I've seen some advertised above $30K but unless they are stunning examples, I don't think they're going anywhere.

Adam, don't you think you *need* a 993?

nostatic, of course i NEED a 993!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but i NEED the money first. the 993 is my favorite 911, but the prices are still way up there, relatively speaking...

brunosan, 'orange crush' isn't going anywhere yet! that car just made european online, by the way... www.europeancarweb.com. the photoshoot was from the 02-02-02 event in spartanburg earlier this year. that thing is every bit as fun to drive as my 911 was, just in a different way. it's a '72 2002tii, frame-up showcar-quality resto job.

i don't know what i'm going to end up with yet. but you can bet i've been killing lots of hours on the net...

So what's your budget? I've looked at/pondered almost every car out there. I can tell you what I've seen out on this coast...

You are in M Coupe range, aren't you...and not in 993 land.

Seems like there are 930s out there in that range. But if you want a project, how about either an early car or an SC with a 3.6 transplant? That seems to be the Pelican approved hot ticket these days. Or if you want more refinement, a clean stock 964 could be had.

Another rocket is a modded Audi urS4 ('92-'94). They are hard to find, but damn fun.

to get a 930 or similar performing car... part of the fun for me is owning different cars, since i can't afford to keep them all.

Thumbs up quite a looker

Adam --

Don't think that I have seen a pic of your Carerra until now, but if it runs as well as it looks (and has an interior to match), you now have one ecstatic owner/friend on your hands.

What I am afraid of, in selling my '78SC, is that I won't find a great example of something with more performance at a price I can touch. Of course you may be fortunate enough to make the aquaintance of a late 80's turbo guy who rewards your interest. But that may take some time.

I am opting for the bird-in-hand strategy, as long as I can swing it: keep the 911SC until I know for sure I have found exactly what I want for the right price.

My '78 has a bit extra $$ invested in the 3.0L rebuild for the additional power, so my goal would be to sell around $17K to a P-car buyer interested in getting a fresh engine/tranny. That may take some time as well.

Happy Hunting! I know of a '77 turbo for sale, but with 245HP and a bit of lag my guess is that both of our cars would make it pale in comparison.

Let me know when you want to drive a few candidates...

Hey Adam, at least you're in the hunt. If I ever sold my car, I doubt that I'd go looking for another. Kind of like the grief stricken widower, knowing there's no replacement. That said, I've often wondered why there aren't more '74-'77 hot rod 911's out there. Find a straight '74, stuff in a 3.4 or 3.6, and away you go...

In my recent searches I found a TON of '77 cars. Seems like that would be a good candidate as it is galvanized, and supply/demand is in your favor. You should be able to find a clean one for well under $10K. That leaves quite a bit of money for upgrades.

Congrats on the sale Adam. It's difficult, but it's the first step towards getting that 930 you want.
In the meantime, you can fill that emptiness with Maker's Mark.

Great photo Adam. Keep that 930 hunt going...you won't regret it!! Much more character than an M car.
