Hotrod Build Start To Finish Video

It's been a while since I've shared details about my project car here on Pelican. Maybe the seam welding or strut bar brace threads ring a bell?

The car is now mostly finished. At least phase 1. I doubt it will ever be finished or perfect, ha ha.

The video below covers start to finish. Yep three years of work consolidated into 11 minutes.

https://youtu.be/545f2dIOfHY
My methods aren't conventional and some of the mods might be one of one? Who knows.

Phase 2 will get a 3.2L engine, more suspension mods, plus loads of tuning and testing.

That's what a toy is for right? To play with...

I'll try to keep this thread updated with more progress.

I really enjoy your videos and sensible approach with the project. Fantastic work. I’ve missed a few, but will bounce around the videos and watch several back-to-back. Congrats on Phase 1..!

Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing. I wish I had done something similar during my build.

Restoration Cost Reveal

Thanks all for the positive comments! I'm really happy to have all this documented. My kids laugh at me all the time for being on YouTube every week, ha ha.

This video reveals all the costs of this restoration to date: My goal was very aggressive - $10k including the cost of the car. I think I did ok!

As always. great work Tom. You are on my Sunday afternoon Youtube watch list.

I enjoy watching your methods of solving problems from a ME point of view.

The bumpers need to be the same Bahama Yellow as the rest of the car.

Best of Luck

Mike

Really a great series and I enjoyed watching. My wife didn't understand why I was watching some guy weld on an old 912 but that's just fine.

Very nice videos. For me, I tried making videos and I realized that I am not a video guy. I teach high school engineering and that is easy compared to video making/filming.
You deserve a lot of credit for that skill.

Apparently most ladies don't watch. So much for my career on a soap opera

Fitting trim after the car is painted is always a dicey proposition. To add complexity my trim pieces are from various parts cars.

This means I had to bend window trim to fit using sheer will.

Here's the video link. I think the final fit to the car is as good as factory or maybe even better?

Well done Tom, you let the secret of window trim fitting out of the bag ,
I have only seen it once before , many years ago.
You are so helpful to all.

Mike from Mike's restorations stopped in for a visit!

I think he was a little nervous to drive my car, but it was a lot of fun and plenty of laughs.

Here's the video on Mike's YouTube channel.

The terminology Hot Rod when talking about any Porsche killed it for me. Hot Rod is a American muscle car that can only go straight.

It is a nice build.

The guy is obviously talented, why after all that great work a 4 cylinder Volkswagen bug engine?

He said in the video that he is planning on putting in a 3.2, probably later this year. My guess is he had the 912 engine and wanted to get it in the car just so he could drive it. He built a custom bracket for the engine mounts so the swap would be easy.
