Rear Seatback Strap?

Dear Pelicans…

1985 911 Coupe. What am I missing in this picture? My rear seat backs won't stay in place. I assume where I've drawn the red arrows is where I need to affix some kind of strap? Most likely this rear deck is NOT original?

Or is this the one that has a red pin near the seat back hinge?

Thanks,
Sam

doesnt that year use a locking pin down at the base of the seat ? a red pin that slides into place ? look at where the hinge points of the seat are.

My 86 has the leather straps.

There are actually two straps for each seat. There is a short strap that is held in by the upper panel screw with a male snap. The second comes out of the top back of the seat. It snaps to the snap shown in your seat back photo to keep it from rattling. When you raise the seat you snap the two straps together.

In your photo you can just make out where the strap used to be. The carpet is darker and less faded where the strap was.

I have no idea if you can retrofit the red knobs the work in the inner hinges. -J

Thanks Jar…

Would you be kind enough to post a pic of your setup? Wondering what happened to the strap that should have come out of the seat back…

Gimme a few on the pics but I can get them for you. I pulled an old post and found a comment by Javadog. Doesn't look like the two types of seatbacks are easily interchangeable. -J

Quote:
The red pins are retractable and spring loaded. When the seats are upright, the pins fit into holes in the center "bearing", which is what Porsche calls the sheetmetal part that is welded to the tub in between the seats. This part also provides the pivot point for the inner side of both rear seats. It is a taller part on the cars that came with the pins. Your car, if it came with straps originally, will have a different, shorter version of this part that lacks the holes for the pins. To use these later seats, you'd have to swap this part (welding required) or fabricate some sort of additional bracket to attach to what is in your car, that would accomodate the pins.

I made my own out of some old black leather shoes I had lying around. I bought the snaps from the hardware store...

New ones are expensive.
