Name this engine. Please

Hello,
I have come across a car that is kind of a hodgepodge of things. I am thinking of picking it up for parts. The vin tag call it a 912, they say it's a 1969 912, but the engine looks to be an older 911 engine. Maybe someone with more experience than I can help out with the engine ID. The car is rough but complete lots of fiberglass work, someone put a SC body kit on it yuk. I like SC cars and have one that I drive, but why ruin an old car by taking the long nose off I could never guess. Anyhow does anyone think the car would be worth around $6500 for parts alone? If not I will pass it's an auction who knows how high it will go. I can pay more just not sure what it's worth, but if it's a 911 engine maybe more. Thank you in advance.

912īs were delivered with the four cylinder engine off the 356īs. The 911 when it first came out had quite a jump in price for the 6 cylinder so Porsche offered the 912 with the 356īs engine as a cheaper alternative. The engine in the picture looks like a 911 engine circa 1969. Can you get the number off the engine, if so we can tell you more

Unfortunately I cannot see the car in person. The only numbers I found were on another picture on an plaque, the numbers are this 352996. Second number 3563T6wwS50.
Hope these help, I just wonder if it's the 4 cyl or a 6 of some variation. Either way what do you all think parts wise is a good price to steal off some parts I may need and then part the rest to hopefully get my money back. Thanks for your help.

hi by the look of distributor and the zenith card it should be 72 2.4 euro engine

Be cautious of that car. It has an early 912 VIN 352996 plate. It is clearly part '72 911. Clearly not a '69 912. Great parts car at a low price. Bidding is almost $6K which is crazy.

I would like to see what VIN is listed on the title.

ir has nice Sport seats with is almost 10K . and it has 1972 oil system ..
needs a closer look at the numbers.

A messy turd of a car. Almost certainly began life as a '72 ROW 911T (pors1968 picked up the telltale carb/dist combo). '72 oil console visible, along with filler flap on fender. Dash details look like a '72 car (911S redline on speedo!). And looks like factory sport seats too! Obviously the wrong vin plate, probably indicating a troubled ownership history. Reasonable value in the parts though.

About the only thing they have correct is that it is a coupe.

Remember, the front tag shown in the pictures is a chassis tag, not a real VIN. Check the front trunk and the tag on the A-pillar to verify.

Looks a lot more 72 than 69 from the pictures.

Thank you everyone I appreciate the info. Does anyone know if it's a 4cyl or a 6cyl? The car in the link that someone put up iz the one. I just did not know if it was ok to insert a link. Thanks for all your opinions.

Definitely it is a 6-cyl.
Definitely NOT CIS. - It currently has Zenith Carbs.
The 70-71 2.2T would have come with the Zenith carbs on the current engine. No way to tell without a case and engine type number to be found next to the engine fan.

A 72 TV (V = Vergasser = carbs) would have come with webers, not Zeniths.

There is no way to tell what is in there. The whole car is a frankenstein.

I think it would easily be worth the current $6500 bid based on the sport seats alone.

Thanks everyone, I thought maybe I was seeing things when I saw the hole on the passenger side rear fender. The car just shot up to 8K which seems to be expensive for a unknown parts car. If anyone else want to bid I am happy to help, I have an account and would consider helping someone out that does not.
I appreciate all the info, it would have been fun to purchase it just to play with, I assume this car came from overseas, based on where it's auctioned at. I thought maybe I could sneak in and get it cheap so much for that one lol. Thank you again.
