Whats the best short shift for my dogleg tranny and what oil should I use in a 2.2?

I need to shorten up the throw of the gearbox in my new 70 S (mmmmm 70S hehehe, I just dont get tired of saying that=) Do I have any options of which one to use? Also, what weight oil should I use in the 2.2? P.O. used Amsoil, but I didnt ask what grade. As usual, thanks for your input.

I don't recall ever seeing a short-shift kit for a 901-family transaxle. If your right arm is long enough, you might try shortening the shift lever a couple of inches. After you replace the ball-cup, shift-rod, and coupler bushings, of course!

Gear oil??? Swepco 212.

There are short shifters available for the 901. Two types - Weltmeister makes one that replaces the entire rod and ball-end with a shortened-fulcrum ball, and also a shortened rod. I tried one once, and couldn't stand the short rod, IME. I had to lift my should off the seat in order to get fourth gear.

The other type requires breaking the epoxy bond between your current rod & ball (keep your minds out of the gutter, guys). You then replace the ball by epoxying on one with a redesigned (shortened) fulcrum.

I had one of these on my former 70 car for a while, but again I ultimately didn't like it. The shift throw is stiffer, and although it had a good positive "feel", I also always wondered if there could be a detrimental impact on the shift linkage, synchros, etc. So I removed it. The one I had was made by Target Motorsports; not sure if they are still around.
