Stored 930
 

I had my 1984 RUF modified Porche 930 in storage for about two year, it is extremely low miles, about 39,000 miles.

When out of storage, replaced battery, all lubricants, filters, including fuel filters, belts, fuel pumps, new tires, the works.

Started the engine over the last few months about once a month, and rencently got it out of storage, new tires, refueled, and got some initial starting issues due to dead battery. Poured fuel stabilizers, additives and octane boosters as well as filled the gas tank. Noticed the fuel tank gauge did raised, but not to full, but to 2/4, even after a couple of days full in the garage.

Once got engine running, started to drive it with very tender low rpm, no more than 50-60 mph limits for a few miles; about 20-30 miles.Then a longer 50 mile round trip drive on the freeway. All went well...

Upon getting off the freeway and into regular traffic stops at one stop light, engine suddenly stopped, with ignition on, and noticing a couple of back firing bangs, obviously from fuel/cylinder starvation.

I tried to re-start, to no avail. Towed back home for about 1 mile in an AAA flat bed.

When I started the trouble shooting, bleeding the fuel filter and noticed from the intake fuel connection, a rather brownish colored fuel (cocktail of additives or rust), so opted to take out/ replace the fuel filter. Still no start. Module is fine (sound coming out of it), engine turning, no start.

I am thinking fuel pump problem, or if not, spark.

Can you help me with a trouble shoot list to work on getting my NO START resolved.

Well given that you saw brown fuel and only 1/2 tank on the gauge, I'd focus my efforts on 'fuel' and not 'spark'. Dirt like this can easily sieze a fuel pump, can you verify it's running and you have fuel pressure at the engine?

I'm not familiar with the 930's, but the 911 carerra's have a fuel test port on the engine for checking fuel volume and pressure.

I'd recommend draining the gas and starting over with new fuel filter - new gas - and you might need to have your injectors cleaned.

Ethanol laced fuel does not like to sit for longer than a few months. It "phase separates" into interesting chemical concoctions that play havoc with older fuel systems (like CIS)

Love your 930 BTW

Beautiful looking car.

I would certainly focus on making sure all your fuel delivery systems are free flowing.

Additionally, I would recommend posting your issues over on the Turbo forum. There is a lot of Turbo specific knowledge over there that can help you with your resurrection issues.

Pull the fuel sender out look in tank check for rust. Check operation of both fuel pumps check the fuse for the pumps. After you find out what's wrong do the mod for the two pump relays. You can find the relay mod in the 930 turbo forum.

It was on Bring a Trailer in 2008 for $37,900!! :eek::eek:

It's listed as an '86.

Maybe phishing for a buyer of smoke from a Pipe Dream...
