braking problem

on my 84 carrera (all stock), i am starting to notice that the first brake application, the pedal depresses quit a bit. afer i pump the pedal one more time the pressure is normal. this continues throughout driving the car.

any suggestions on what to do as to stop this?
bleed system?
i know the brakes have never been rebuilt or master cylinder replaced. could this be a sign to start overhauling parts?
thanks

Sounds like a master cylinder problem...

you may have to take it apart to see if it is too pitted to rebuild. It sounds just like every soon to fail master cylinder I've ever had.
Bleed it and check to see if it has been leaking.
