Thoughts on updated fuse / relay panel for longhood
 

My 73 3.6 is basically finished and everything works (at least everything I put back in works). My original plan was to use modern generic ATO fuse blocks, but I want to do something with the relays also. I have 6-7 in various places and want to clean them up. Is there anything wrong with using a 993 or 944 fuse block? All the wiring would be on the bottom so it would be hidden and there are plenty of options for fuses and relays. I would need to come up with a way to mount it and solder and/or crimp a ton of connectors, but it should provide a pretty clean finished product and wouldn't cost much more than the generic fuse holders. Is there something I am missing? I have not seen anyone else do this, so there may be a reason. Thanks.

This would certainly be "do-able" but would require lots of work! Keep in mind that the existing panel runs up-down and that there is not a lot of spare room. One of the panels from the early 90's when Porsche first went to the ATO/ATC type fuses would most likely come closest to fitting. Good luck!

A worthy and challenging project. However, keep in mind that some years from now, you, the next owner or a tech might need some sort of road map (circuit diagram) to efficiently diagnose potential electrical issues. And that will be long after forgetting what that non-factory purple wire is connected to.

just to finish off this thread, I decided to keep the stock fuse panel (after all, it works), but made a stainless mounting panel and got new matching relays. before I had several different types of relays all wrapped in tape laying in the floor of the trunk. this hides the fuse panel and gave me a place to mount the relays. I have a similar but smaller panel on the other side for the oil cooler and fog light relays.

I just noticed the 3.6. I also noticed the front ducting. What oil coolers are you running that are ducted this way. Build details?

thanks. there is a 964 a/c condenser in the left fender and a 964 oil cooler in the right. the ducting comes from under the car and thru the battery boxes.
