Replacing an 86 engine bay fuel lines

"And For My Next Trick"...I am in need and wanting to replace my engine bay fuel lines, as I am uncomfortable diving my car daily with the original lines in the there! Has anyone replaced these lines and was successful at it with something else besides the OEM's or Len's?

Thanx,

Serge

Len (BoxsterGT) is the best solution IMHO.

I made my own - I took them apart, cut off the old ferrules with a rotozip (like a dremel but much better IMHO) and then got high pressure ethanol safe fuel line and took them to a shop that makes hydraulic hoses - they had some crimps that fit over the hoses and they crimped down nicely. Cost was under $50 for the hose and the crimps.

If you do this, make sure you mark the orientation of the connectors on the hoses because you want all the directions to come out correct so you don't have to twist a hose upon installation.

For the curved fuel return piece I repaced it with a piece of bent steel fuel line from a u-pull it. I plan to replace this piece with Len's at some point.

Thanx Chuck! It sounds like you did not pull the intake manifold off.

I didn't take off the manifold but I did gleefully chop up the hardlines as I could not get them out otherwise.

I can't remember, but I did have the engine out of the car - I may have loosened the manifold a bit, it's a very tight fit in there. I remove my engine every few years to adjust the valves and go after a few oil leaks.

You're right to be concerned about the fuel lines. There's a lot of good, informative reading to do on the subject on this forum - you can start with this post:
Notorious Carrera 3.2L rear fuel line leak revisited (long)

Search "Carrera fuel line" and you'll be entertained for hours...

Good luck,
