2.7L distributor end play issue...
I've got a 0 231 184 001 distributor on my 2.7L. While trying to troubleshoot a some mid-range RPM issues, I found that I could grab the rotor and move the distributor shaft axially ~1/8". Obviously too much end play.
I pulled the distributor and after much research have determined that I'm missing what I think is a fiber washer (which is now nowhere to be found) on the main shaft between the pinion gear and the plate that holds the advance weights. I have been searching the forum without luck looking for an exploded view of this distributor. Does anybody have one? Does that fiber washer get installed between the pinion and the distributor body or under the advance plate? Any published hard specs for the appropriate amount of shaft end play? (I'm guessing ~0.005".) Thanks for the help. Last edited by fanaudical; 11-07-2013 at 09:14 PM.. |

PartsKlassic has the parts you need.
On my phone or I'd link you to a distributor bushing replacement thread from a few months ago. Search for it? |

Thanks for that - found it and the parts.
I have the older 2.7 distributor with points and looks like there are some differences from the SC disctributor (primarily in bushing stack-up). If anybody runs across a parts diagram, please post it. |

2.4 and 2.7 are similar in construction, with the 2.7 being easier to service. Toughest part is getting the circlip under the felt removed. If the lower washer is the only one worn out then just remove the pin holding the lower drive gear.
